Message by Bishop of Shimoga

"Dear Fathers, Brothers, Sisters and Friends,

I deeply regret to give you the tragic news of the sad and unexpected demise of Rev. Fr Alwyn Serrao, 48 yrs, of our diocese in the government hospital, Honnali. He was on sick leave for some time now. According to the hospital records he apparently succumbed to Covid-19".

"On 9th June 2021, Fr Alwyn breathed his last and his funeral took place on 11th June at 10am at Sacred Heart Cathedral Priests Cemetery, Shivamogga. Fr Alwyn Serrao is my classmate. We studied together Philosophy at St. Peter's Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore. Then for his theology he went to St. Joseph's Seminary, Mangalore. We four of us Fr Bartholomew Lancy D'souza, Fr Stephen Maxi Albuquerque and Fr Alwyn Serrao and myself celebrated our Twentieth year of Priestly Ordination anniversary together at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Hiriyur, Chitradurga District. Faithful of Hiriyur Parish did honour and prayed for all of us. But we never thought we will lose our batchmate in such a tragic death. We pray to Jesus to grant him eternal rest. REST IN PEACE DEAR FRIEND FR ALWYN SERRAO".
