Chitradurga - Hiriyur January 1, 2023: Diocese of Shimoga dedicated 2023 as Year of Woman and Girl Child. On December 24th during the Christmas midnight Holy Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shivamogga, Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao SJ, Bishop of Diocese of Shimoga inaugurated the year officially. He invited all the Parishes of his Diocese of Shimoga to read out the circular and inaugurate it on New Year eve i.e., on the Feast of Mary Mother of God.

At Our Lady of Assumption Church, Hiriyur, Chitradurga District during the New Year eve Mass Parish Priest Fr Franklin D'Souza read the circular of the Bishop and explained to the faithful, the intention of the Bishop why we need to dedicate this year.

After that Rev. Fr Franklin D'Souza together with Assistant Parish Priest Rev. Fr Nelson D'Souza, Church Convent Superior Sr. Jude, Vedavatinagar Convent Superior Sr. Metty Mathew and Parish Council Secretary Mrs. Rani Victoria inaugurated the year of "Woman and Girls Child" by unveiling the Logo.

Bishop has asked every Parish to draw a plan to celebrate the year meaningfully.
