August 4, 2021: Msgr. Arulselvam Rayappan was ordained as the Bishop of Diocese of Salem and installed him at Infant Jesus Cathedral, at Salem. Consecration ceremony led by TNBC President Most Rev. Dr Anthony Pappuswamy and Most Rev. Singarayan, Bishop Emeritus of Salem and Most Rev. Lawrence Pius, Apostolic Administrator of Salem and Bishop of Diocese of Dharmapuri were the co-consecrators.
Most Rev. Soosai Manickyam, Bishop Emeritus of Diocese of Shivagangai preached the homily. After the consecration a short felicitation was held for the new Bishop.
Bishop A. Rayappan was born on 18/11/1960 and ordained priest on 20/05/1986. He hails from the Archdiocese of Pondicherry Cuddalore.He holds B.A. in philosophy from Madurai Kamaraj University, B.Th from St. Peter's Pontifical Institute, Bangalore and Doctorate in Canon Law from Pontificia University Urbaniana, Rome.
Bishop Rayappan knows Tamil, Kannada, English, Italian, German and French languages. He was serving as Professor at St. Peter's Pontifical Seminary since 1990 till date as he was elected as Bishop of Salem.
Apart from this he is a kind hearted Human being, zealous preacher of the word of God. His daily reflections are available on YouTube. As a Bishop he has taken his motto "Listen to Him".
