12th October, Jalandhar, Punjab: The Youth of the ICYM took out a peace rally on the concluding day of the IX National Youth Convention on 12th October, 2013 from St. Joseph’s School, Cant. Jalandhar to Trinity College, the Convention Venue.
All the delegates gathered at the St. Joseph’s School premise in the morning and started the peace rally towards the Convention Venue at 10.00 am, covering a distance of 8 Kilometers for the cause of peace. All the delegates walked the rally in their traditional dress and according to their region. They also held placards in their hands, depicting the message of peace and respect for life.
At the start of the Rally, Miss. Olima Minj, the President of the Indian Catholic Youth said, “My dear friends, today we are walking for a noble cause. United we can transform the world.” She reminded the youth, that it is Youth who can make the society better. She said, “If the society is good or bad, we are responsible. If the society lacks peace, it is our responsibility to ensure that peace prevails.”
Balloons were released at the beginning of the peace rally to demonstrate that the Indian Youth are for peace.
Archbishop Anil Couto, Archbishop of Delhi, graced the occasion with his presence. He said, “Today we stand here for peace, which the society needs. Let us do everything for peace and let us always be for peace. Let us keep Jesus in our heart, who is Peace.”
Mr. Ramesh Mittal, the Chairman of the Lovely Professional University Mr. Tejender Bittu Sing were also present for the inauguration of the Peace Rally. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramesh Bittu said, “Dear friends, “It is Jesus who prayed for Peace. As followers of Christ, we need to promote peace.”
All the delegates participated very actively and with enthusiasm in the peace rally.
